Thankful.

Added on November 27, 2014 by Carolyn Van Houten.

Thanksgiving is, of course, a day for being grateful for the people, food, opportunities and privileges we hold dear.  I have been very fortunate for each of those things throughout my life.  However, as a journalist, I have realized that every day is a day for thanks.

There are people in this world going through things I cannot possibly fathom.  They have experiences, good and bad, that I will never have.  They live through things I may not have been able to survive.  And they have fought harder and with less than I could possibly imagine.

However, a few of these people have let me bear witness to their life's experiences, their triumphs and their fights.  They have given my life context for how blessed I have been.  They have welcomed me into their homes and their lives and let me document their vulnerability and their strength.  They have taught me what it means to trust, to endure and to love.  For that, I am most thankful.
